Cello Dahlings!
Happy 2007! I hope your year has gotten off to a great start. What a fresh breeze in the air this year, already! I can't wait to see what is in store.
So you may have noticed the site is undergoing some changes. Thanks to Trevor Thompson, he's gettin it all jiggy for the new year! :) Hopefully you'll be coming back!
I just found out I was accepted into the DC Independent Music festival in March and I'm quite excited! I'll post more details when I have them.
I recently bought a brand new guitar that sounds like a dream (and even smells yummy, too! Mmmmm, vanilla + patchouli) and am hoping to be out and about a bit more this year with my new "baby" - haha! And I also hope to get into the studio to record some with friends, etc.
Stay tuned....the best is yet to come!

I just watched "Lackluster Syndrome" ~ the independent film that features 'Cider Night' & 'World in Gray' in its soundtrack.
This past week, I was informed the movie will be screening at a Northern Virginia theatre in May. I was so happy to receive a copy beforehand!
I'm quite honored that my songs were chosen to be apart of this film! I'm not a film critic, by any means, but I *love* movies and am in awe of the filmmaking process. So, I'll add my 2¢ that I *love* the visual & artistic elements that decorated the film's storyline. Quite stunning! I can't wait 'til the movie is in theatres!

"a little mint" is now proudly available for your downloading pleasure at iTunes.
"a little mint" can now also be ordered at TowerRecords.com & CDBaby.com |
Greetings!
As I'm typing this I realize I'm totally busted – it's been quite some time since I've last posted!!
I hope your 2005 has gotten off to a great start ~ we're a quarter of the way through it now! :P Will spring EVER arrive to stay in DC? I, for one, am so ready for some sunshine and warmth!
Well, I’ve been getting lots of emails and IM's asking about upcoming shows. So, I figured it's time to get on this PC and update.
My, o, my! It has been a while since our last show (November @ DC9). I knew the holidays were going to bring the band into a hiatus so I expected a little lull in our schedule. And with the change in the band scenery (if you were at any of our late 2004 shows, you might have noticed), we definitely needed time to figure out the new game plan.
Well, it turns out that the new year has brought many new changes. All good changes...but all changes that also have kept us from being out-and-about like we'd hoped.
Well, Jorge & John (who also play in Villa Rosie) are keeping busy with their musical goings on, guitarist Kevin Riutort is moving to Florida for his new position at the Mayo Clinic. And drummer Paul Minor is just too good to be sitting still so he’s enjoying the likes of a new band. Talk about a LOT of changes!
I'm staying busy these days working on promoting 'a little mint'. Look for it on iTunes and all the online places you buy music! I'll send emails as soon as it's available and keep you posted on more news circulating around the CD.
I’m also keeping busy writing songs these days. Right now, I’m working on a song with a friend of mine in Nashville. (I hope he likes what I’ve done to it!). Collaboration is a fun fun way to write! This is a great way to keep those creative juices flowing and have fun w/ friends-in-music.
In the mean time ~ support local music & be good to eachother!

At 9pm on Sunday evenings Z104 dedicates one hour to unsigned artists in the Washington, DC area with a program called Capital Scene.
Next week (Sunday, Nov 14th) I'll be Capital Scene's Featured Artist.

Hello, There!
Just a quick post on a beautiful autumn day in DC! It's warm this weekend but the leaves are changing and even falling! My favorite season!
Despite Department Stores already gearing-up for Christmas (*grrrr*), I was quite delighted to see Starbucks celebrating autumn with their new Pumpkin Spice Latte! *Mmmmmmmmm*
(I wonder if Starbucks could sponsor a tour for me & the band?!?)
Well, along with the splendor of autumn's beauty, new seasons of WB soaps, and holiday caffeine jolts, I do have music news: 1) If you haven't already seen the "a little mint" write-up on The Washington Post MP3 web site, the link is: http://mp3.washingtonpost.com
2) "World In Gray" and "Cider Night" are featured in independent film "Lackluster Syndrome" ~ which will be showing at upcoming film festivals. Stay tuned for more indie-flick info!
That's all for now... |
It's been awhile since I've posted!
"a little mint" has been officially released and what a great celebration it was! Thanks, again, to everyone who came out to join in the festivities! And if you are far away wanting to get your hands on the EP - online distribution is coming soon!! Stay tuned!
Be sure to visit the SHOWS page -the band and I will be participating in a Presenters Showcase on Thursday night in Maryland - we're definintely looking forward to the event! If you're up that way, come on out!
Tulsa Modern Rock Station "The Edge" (KMYZ 104.5FM) has been spinning some of the songs from "a little mint" on their show Homegroan! Thanks!
Also, friend-in-music Greg Roth (formerly of The Jillians) has been working all summer on his new solo CD. I had the honor of singing some background vocals on a few of the songs. I just love his songs (think Lemonheads, Elvis Costello, Old 97s)! I haven't had a lot of opportunity to guest vocal work - so this was definitely a fun experience! One of the songs "If You Haven't Lost Your Mind" is posted to The Washington Post MP3 page for free downloading! Leah Morgan appears on this song, as well. Visit: http://mp3.washingtonpost.com/bands/the_jillians.shtml to download.
I can't believe it's September already!!

I'm extremely honored to announce the celebration of "a little mint" on August 29th!!
The celebration will be held at my favorite DC-area club, IOTA (Arlington, VA). And friend-in-music Andy Zipf will be kicking-off the night!
This show is a perfect summertime Sunday evening event - IOTA gave us a stellarly early show time (7pm!)! IOTA has a delish restaurant connected to it - so come out early and have dinner!
The “a little mint” Debut Celebration is a huge celebration for unveiling a long-awaited project, thanking all those who contributed to this release, and for you all who have been so supportive (and patient) while this CD reached completion. I have lots up my sleeve to make this an event you won't want to miss!!!
Mark your calendars and plan to spend a night of celebration with me & the band at IOTA! |
The Wild Strawberries song says “To be someone, you’ve got someone to pay” and these are the peeps that deserve all my money (if I had any) & to whom I owe my first 5-born children ~ b/c I couldn't do any of this without them. I want to introduce the band:
KONRAD RHEE (guitars) I met Konrad 4 years ago while he was playing in a band called Mike’s Halfway House (currently on hiatus) & I was fronting Vapor. His influences include The Beatles & The Sex Pistols. His talents expand past the pop/rock realms into Native American genre. Konrad is getting ready to release the follow-up to his "Blue Sea Dreams" collection of instrumental indigenous creations. Konrad wrote the songs “The Stalker” “Holiday” and “Allison” that you’ll hear at the shows.
KEVIN RIUTORT (guitar) Kevin is also a member of Mike’s Halfway House. He’s influenced by Neil Young and claims Grandaddy to be his new found music treasure. Kevin is finishing his third year of medical school at Georgetown University & has also become a new dad to a beautiful baby girl. Kevin has changed my song “World In Gray” from a lamenting ballad featured on “a little mint” to the sassy version you hear at the shows.
JORGE E.BAÑALES (bass) The most recent to join the band, I met Jorge through his band, Villa Rosie, one of my *most favorite* bands.
PAUL MIONR (drums) Paul & I met through mutual friends and he also spent time in rock outfit, Happenstance. His influences include Jimmy Chamberlain, Matt Cameron & Dave Abbruzzese. Paul and I bonded instantly when I spilled red wine on him the 1st night we met (a tradition which occurs almost every time we’re in the same room and I’m armed with Shiraz). Paul & I also serenade the rest of the band w/ our beautiful duet renditions of Counting Crows and Pearl Jam songs ~ much to everyone else’s chagrin. :p
MELISSA GIBSON (background vocals) Melissa has graced the recordings & stage with her gorgeous voice and gift of beautiful harmonies for artists like: Brian St. Andre, Stephanie Cuomo, Frontline Band @ McLean Bible Church, and Chris Joyner. I met Melissa at a coffeehouse open mic and we became friends due to our shared adoration for the band Sixpence None The Richer. Melissa also credits Kasey Chambers & Waterdeep as musical influences. |
Well, it's been awhile since I've posted on this thing. I have a *major* fear of posting online. Sometimes things sound good in your head but read terribly wrong (esp when the morning coffee hasn't kicked-in or one hasn't slept as much as they should)! Maybe that's why I love writing songs - I get MONTHS to ponder my words before any hears them. ;)
If there's ever a time to post, however, it's now. As you can see from the picture above, my EP "A Little Mint" is one step closer to being released! Trevor Thompson (www.hurldesigns.com) is the creative mind behind the CD artwork and I love it! As usual, I got weepy and then backhanded him because I was so happy! Working w/ me isn't always a safe situation. ;)
As the EP is almost ready for your ears, I'm definitely grateful for all the hands that went into helping me with this: from producers to the players to artwork to my friends that hear about my dramas! I'm so happy these songs are finding their way out of the studio.
Also, what's new is that my back-up band is finally complete! I'll introduce them in a future posting but they are FABULOUS! Folks in Annapolis got a sneak-peak of the band a few weekends ago but I look forward to sharing them w/ the rest of you at the summer events we have up-our-sleeves. Again, I feel so very fortunate to have these guys by my side and it's been a lot of fun gearing-up for the summer shows.
I guess my excuse for not posting is that there has been sooooo much going on... I will post more frequently, I swear!
Can't wait to see you this summer! |
Sorry for the all caps title ~ I'm not yelling at you, I'm just really excited to finally be online! It's so nice to have a lil' place to call home on the world wide web. ;) Many thanks to Dave Gorrie for his work to make this happen!
Please save this address in your Favorites folder! Visit often & tell your friends! I'll be updating this site frequently with news, new MP3's, show dates & the like.
So, until then... Come in, look around, make yourself at home.
Enjoy!
